AI Translator Help & Support

Help with translating selected text, typed text, and webpages in Chrome, plus the current limits and availability of AI Translator.

1. Availability and Google sign-in

AI Translator is available from the Chrome Web Store for Chrome 120 or later. Open the product's Store listing and choose Add to Chrome to install the current public version.

Translation requires Google sign-in. Open the extension and sign in before requesting a translation. Use the same Google account in the extension and on the billing website so that a Pro subscription is associated with the correct account.

2. Getting started

Install AI Translator from the Chrome Web Store, pin it to the Chrome toolbar, and reload websites that were already open. Allow access to the websites where you want to use selection or page translation.

Open AI Translator, sign in with Google, and choose a target language. Ukrainian is selected initially. Enter text in the popup, or select text on a webpage and click the small translation icon.

Selecting text alone does not submit it in the default icon mode. The optional instant mode automatically submits selected text for translation. Translation uses cloud processing, as explained in the privacy policy.

3. Translate a page, stop, or restore the original

Full-page translation is included in Pro. Choose Translate page in the extension popup. The on-page panel shows progress and lets you stop translation or restore the original text. Translation continues after you close the popup, and newly appearing page text can be translated while page translation is active.

Stopping page translation ends that activity. Restoring the original replaces translated page text with the originals held in the page memory; originals are not retained for restoration after the page closes. Different text lengths may change line wrapping.

A page can exceed your remaining character allowance. Completed sections stay readable when the allowance runs out, and restoring the original does not refund completed translations.

4. Free and Pro character allowances

Free costs $0 and includes 100,000 source characters per calendar month, resetting on the first day at 00:00 UTC, with up to 4,000 characters per request. Auto-detect and text or selection translation are included.

Pro costs $4.99 USD per month or $39.99 USD per year and includes 2,000,000 source characters per quota month, up to 50,000 characters per request, full-page translation, optional page context, formal/friendly/technical tone controls, and priority processing. Yearly payment is billed once per year; the character allowance renews monthly.

Pro quota months follow the original subscription anniversary in UTC. A missing anniversary day is clamped to that month’s last day: January 31 → February 28/29 → March 31. Unused monthly characters do not roll over. Input characters, including spaces and punctuation, are counted as Unicode code points; output, prompt instructions, and optional context are not billed as source characters.

Allowance is reserved while a job runs, charged on success, and released after failure, cancellation, or expiration. One-time word packages are no longer sold or used for new translations. Historical payment records remain available; contact support about an earlier purchase. Image translation is not included in the current Free/Pro offering.

5. Local translation history

Completed history is stored only in this Chrome profile, with a limit of 1,000 entries or 25 MiB. The oldest entries may be removed to stay within these storage limits. Free shows the latest 20 entries; Pro provides access to up to 1,000. Downgrading alone does not delete older entries. History is not synchronized across devices.

You can delete individual entries, clear local history, or turn recording off. History is isolated by account and billing environment. Signing out clears the authentication session but retains local history; deleting entries, clearing history, or uninstalling removes it. These actions do not cancel a Stripe subscription or delete server-side payment records. When you enable the optional Pro page-context setting, up to 2,000 characters of visible surrounding page text may be sent to the translation providers. Inputs, passwords, editable controls, hidden text, and HTML are excluded from this context; do not include confidential context you do not want processed.

6. Supported pages and content

AI Translator works on ordinary HTTP and HTTPS pages where you have allowed site access. It can process eligible text in accessible frames and open Shadow DOM. Editable controls, form fields, hidden content, code blocks, and the extension's own interface are skipped.

  • Chrome internal pages and Chrome Web Store pages are not supported.
  • Chrome's built-in PDF viewer is not supported.
  • Text inside images, canvas content, and closed Shadow DOM cannot be translated.

7. Common problems

  • Connection error: check your network and try again. Service interruptions can prevent translation.
  • Expired sign-in: open the extension and sign in again. If sign-in still fails, contact support with the error message and extension version.
  • Character allowance exhausted: wait for the displayed reset date or choose Pro on the payment website. Pro features require a verified paid period.
  • Update required: update AI Translator to the current version from the Chrome Web Store, then reopen the extension and reload the affected website.
  • Payment not confirmed: refresh your billing account and contact support with the receipt identifier; do not pay twice to fix delayed confirmation.
  • Page translation unavailable: confirm Pro access and website permissions; Chrome internal pages, Chrome Web Store pages, and built-in PDF content are unsupported.

8. Cancellation, restoration, and deletion requests

Stopping a translation, restoring page text, signing out, and uninstalling are different controls. Cancelling or restoring a page does not erase text or results already submitted for cloud processing. Uninstalling removes local extension storage; it does not itself delete a server-side account or immediately remove server-side jobs.

For account deletion or other privacy requests, contact the email below. See the privacy policy for server-side retention, automatic job expiration, and the providers involved in translation.

9. What to include in a support request

Include your Chrome version, operating system, extension version, the error code or message, and steps to reproduce the problem using non-sensitive sample text. You may include a redacted screenshot if it helps explain the issue.

Do not send passwords, authentication tokens, API keys, private page text, or unredacted personal information. For a page-specific problem, describe the type of page; share a public URL only when you are comfortable doing so.
